I have been a member of this site twice, having not quite learned my lesson the first time. I put my lack of success the first time down to lack of effort on my behalf, and consequently fell for another 6 month subscription, albeit at the half price special offer rate.

I was aware of the auto-renewal scenario and have been able to cancel the subscription on both occasions without any funds being taken from my account for auto-renewal, so my gripe is not about that, as it has been with so many others.

My gripe relates to the overall futility of attempting to meet anyone on this site.
Without going into great detail, I am not a bad looking guy, am relatively successful and spent a long time completing and modifying my profile, but during the 12 months of membership I did not receive one single reply to any of my emails. Not one. Latterly I resorted to only contacting those who had already been attracted to my profile, but again I never received a single reply. I have just viewed the site to see what it is like and was actually very shocked when I immediately got so many contacts from my home area of Hereford and a lot of these ladies I can actually say that I would be very happy to contact.
But due to investigating all these reviews about the program and it's price and complications many have stated that they had closing their membership when needing to, I'm actually quite worried about this due to it's cost and from the explanations given from so many others that have used it.
I really feel like I am letting you down and can understand why you are so frustrated.
I genuinely am going to have to think hard about this as it looks like a big financial risk to take.
I'm putting this note on here to show that I am actually looking for Mrs Right.

I took out a 6-month subscription with DatingDirect.com and even though I had cancelled the "auto-renewal" (a ridiculously complicated process that they obviously don't want you to manage to do), 6 months later without warning or any communication at all they stole £137 from my PayPal account.

If it wasn't for the PayPal email I received, I would never have known about it unless I happened to spot it on my bank statement some time later as I received no communication from Datingdirect.com at all, even after they took my money - a complete ripoff and scam.

DO NOT TRUST DATINGDIRECT.COM AND DO NOT EXPECT PAYPAL TO HELP YOU IN ANY WAY, THEY DON'T CARE EITHER.

Match.com appear to be the same company so I wouldn't trust them or Dating Direct.

In summary, I would not recommend Dating Direct to a friend.

On this site, your membership is automatically renewed at the monthly price, without you actually requesting it. No email is sent to notify you of this renewal either; you find out when you look at your bank statement.
Moreover, no refund is given when requested, even when they realize that you haven't been using the site since before the 'automatic renewal'.
BTW, all calls made are to centres not within Europe.

In summary, I would not recommend Dating Direct to a friend.

Dating Direct is a very easy site to join and what is on offer is perfectly acceptable apart from the difficulty there is with cancellation and customer service. Last year I deleted my profile and closed my account. However, when you sign up they operate an automatic renewal policy. So when I deleted my profile, closed my account and stopped using the site they still continued to remove money from my account. There must be a less obvious way to navigate the site to cancel payment and despite receiving no notification Dating Direct continued to remove money from my account. I have tried to contact customer services who acknowledge that I deleted my profile last year and have not used the site since August 2010 but get a very bland 'sorry but that is our policy' response and 'you will not be getting a refund'. In my view the automatic renewal and difficulty in cancelling payment/contacting customer service is quite a sophisticated system for preying on some already vulnerable people.

In summary, I would not recommend Dating Direct to a friend.

I have to be honest and say that overall, its not a bad site and have come across some nice people. What has prompted me not to join again is the fact that no longer can you un-subscribe from what will be an automatic re-newal unless you cancel. You sign up online, but to un-subscribe....you have to actually ring a telephone number and speak directly (India I think) with someone in a call centre. You used to be able to cancel subscriptions online - Why have DD changed this? There is no logical reason other than making it just that much harder to cancel. Shame on you DD.
