Urbansocial is a comprehensive dating website with a variety of useful features for dating single men and women. Though it has a somewhat misleading name – it’s nothing really to do with urban areas – its foundations are solid and you’ve a decent chance of getting a date locally or further afield in the UK. You don’t need to be city-based, though inevitably this is where the majority of people live and so its members tend to be drawn to those areas.

Urbansocial’s features are nothing mind-blowing but there are a good number of them which might help you to promote yourself and the sort of person you’re looking to meet. On first signing up you are invited to send out a “hello” message to the singles in your area, which is a good way of getting some attention straight away and to give off a good impression. You might also decide to become a VIP member for just £2.99 a month extra, which gives your profile more precedence when other singles are making searches. The advanced search on urbansocial covers a lot of the important bases such as drinking and smoking habits, which really can matter to some people, as well as the sort of physical attributes you find most desirable. You can filter out members who don’t have photos, too, which is good if you’re interested in seeing what the members look like. That said, the quality of the photos is very low, less than 500kb only, which means you’ll not get to see them in a lot of detail and potentially won’t be able to impress with the finest image of yourself.

There are a few other points worth considering with urbansocial: there is no option for men to search for men, or women for women, and whilst it mentions that its members are “in the thousands” it’s hard to pin down exactly how many thousands there actually are and how many are active users. You can select to only see members who are online, which is a good way of making sure you’re not just scanning through abandoned profiles, but it’s difficult to tell precisely where users are from as it only sorts by region, rather than town or city. That said, you can specify that the members you’re looking for must be within 10 miles of you, so you can assume they’re probably local. Customer support is hard to come by too; although there is a lot of information throughout the site it does not reside on a dedicated FAQ page, so finding what you want can be a long process. You can request support through an on-site message system, though, but again this may take time to receive a response.

Urbansocial is a solid dating site that misses a few tricks. Its low quality photos and lack of support might be a pain for some users, but otherwise it is quick and easy to join and has a few ways to get to know other single people in the UK.
