Editor's Verdict: When (or if) you do manage to log on to Date.co.uk you will be asked for a range of personal details and preferences before being able to proceed. Firstly, you must provide Basic information about yourself, including name, email address, age, whether you're looking for a man or woman for dating, friendship, a long-term relationship or marriage. Then you will be asked to provide more in-depth information in the About Me section, relating to physical appearance, educational qualifications, ethnicity, etc. The next section, called Fun Facts, asks about your interest, hobbies, culinary tastes, political leanings, etc. You are afforded the opportunity to go into even greater depth about yourself in the section called Essays. This is not a blank space in which to write an essay, instead it offers the following fields: Who am I and what am I looking for? What would I like to do on a first date? Why you should get to know me. What good things have past relationships taught me? Some of the most important things in my life are. How would I describe my perfect day? A few more things I would like to add. Describe the type of person you'd like to meet. When you've finished describing yourself with words, you are encouraged to upload "recent photos that show you distinctly and modestly clothed." This means that you must be the only person visible in the photo and presumably you must not be nude, although "modestly clothed" is obviously open to interpretation! When you're satisfied that you have spoken enough about yourself, you can move on to speaking about the type of person you would like to meet, in the section entitled, Ideal Match. The criteria listed here are quite similar to those listed in the About Me section. Many people will find themselves ticking the same boxes as they ticked in the About Me section because they are subconsciously drawn to their mirror images, while others will find themselves ticking completely different boxes because they hope to find someone who will be a counter-balance - a yin to their yang. When you have enriched your profile with details about who you are, what you look like, and what you're looking for in another, you should have much better success at finding a date. In fact, Date.co.uk provide you with a range of tools to help you find others with whom you are compatible and to maintain regular contact with these special people, ensuring that they don't slip off your radar. Who's viewed me lets you see which members have viewed your profile. If you like the look of someone, you can take the next step and contact them, secure in the knowledge that there is probably some physical attraction or other compatibility between you, because they found your profile interesting enough to click on. Think you'd Click? is a feature that provides members with a better idea of whether someone is interested in them. If you click Yes, Date.co.uk will secretly find out if they're also interested in you. Click Maybe if you would like Date.co.uk to pose the question once again in the future (perhaps when you've finished exploring the most enticing leads). If you click No the person you're disinterested in will never know you said no. My Recent Matches, helps you keep track of the people you seem to be compatible with, while My Favourites makes a note of the people you are definitely compatible with. Who's online provides a list of all the members currently online. This information can be useful if you're sitting at your desk feeling bored, lonely or friskey and would like an immediate response from a member of Date.co.uk. In a similar vein, there are also Chat Rooms where users can send messages in real-time using instant messenger. If you'd like to gauge other members' opinions on an issue, you can go to My Communities and join or initiate a debate on the issue. Debates are categorized according to the following headings: Relationships & Dating; He Said/She Said; Faith & Spirituality; Entertainment; Well-being & Fitness; News& Current Events; and Resources & Learning. Such community forums are a useful way of meeting attractive people. You may find someone attractive because they share your views or because they challenge your thinking and encourage you to broaden your perspective. Community forums can also be a useful way of seeing how an individual treats others: are they polite and concilliatory or rude and confrontational in their postings. Date.co.uk also offer some helpful safety advice when dating online, although the page is not very easy to find on the site and our second reviewer found it more quickly with a Google search than with the menu system on the website. Most of the safety advice seems pretty obvious, but of course there may be some people for whom it comes as a revelation. Ensuring that you use Date.co.uk's anonymous private mailboxes (not a personal email account) is probably one the best ways to stay safe online. So in a nutshell, Date.co.uk offers a decent range of helpful features with its Free Membership and a very reasonable range of features with its Premium Membership. We marked it down because we found the site difficult to navigate and were frustrated not to have received any help from customer support after many requests. Date.co.uk is worth checking out if you are williing to address the personal details section before being able to explore the capabilities of the site. However, we suggest that you read our review of UK.Match.com (our top ranked site) before deciding whether or not to become a Premium member with Date.co.uk.
